Attractions in Junagadh

Girnar ropeway
Girnar ropeway is a ropeway on Mount Girnar in Junagadh. It is Asia’s longest ropeway with 2,126.40 metres (6,976.4 ft).
Sakkar Baug Zoo
Oldest in Gujarat and 3rd oldest in India. With a large variety of bird and animals. The zoo provides purebred Asiatic lions for the Indian and the international endangered species captive breeding program for the critically endangered species. Wild free ranging Asiatic lions have become extinct over most of Asia and are today found only in the nearby Gir Forest.
Makabara
Nawab of Junagadh was burried here. A fine specimen of medievel. Maqbara Palace, also Mausoleum of Bahaduddinbhai Hasainbhai, is a mausoleum in Junagadh, India, that was once home to the Nawabs of Junagadh.The city of Junagadh has other 18th century mausoleums built by the Nawabs in the area around Chitkana Chowk.
Narsinh Mehta Choro
House of great hindu poet, saint and reformer of the century. This place is said to be one where the great poet Saint and reformer Narsinh Mehta held his assemblies of discovers in the 15th century. Some believe that Lord Krishna held a traditional “Rasleela” dance for his devotee Narsinh Mehta.
Uperkot
An impressive fort, Uperkot, located on a plateau in the middle of town, was originally built during the Mauryan dynasty by Chandragupta in 319 BCE The fort remained in use until the 6th century, when it was abandoned for some 300 years, then rediscovered in 976 CE. The fort was besieged 16 times over an 800-year period. One unsuccessful siege lasted twelve years.
Ashok Shilalekh
An edict of emperor Ashoka dating 3rd century B.C. bears inscription in brahmin scripts. The inscription is inscribed high up on a large, domed mass of black granite on Girnar, a collection of hills near the town. The location is beside the main road about a couple of kilometers from the main city of Junagadh.
Damodar Kund
It was built by vajranabh, the great grand son of Lord Krishna. It is considered holy, as per Hindu mythology and many Hindus prefer to bathe and immerse the ashes and the bones left after cremation of dead bodies, here at Damodar Kund due to a belief that the departed souls would get moksha here.
Mount Girnar ht 3300 ft
It has 9999 steps & 5 peaks which includes famous Jain Derasar & Guru Datatrey Temple. Older than Himalayas, Girnar, the mountain and its range are considered sacred and it’s an important pilgrimage site for both Jains and Hindus, who gather here during the Girnar Parikrama festival.
Akshar Temple
The famous swaminarayan temple of junagadh. Swaminarayan, the founder of the Swaminarayan Sampraday, established temples, known as mandirs, as part of his philosophy of theism and deity worship. These mandirs are known as Swaminarayan Hindu temples.
Sasan Gir (Lion Sanctury)
Located 54 kms from Junagadh, Asiatic lion Sanctury is open from october to june. It is the sole home of the Asiatic lions (Panthera leo persica) and is considered to be one of the most important protected areas in Asia due to its supported species. The ecosystem of Gir, with its diverse flora and fauna, is protected as a result of the efforts of the government forest department, wildlife activists and NGOs.
Somnath Temple
Located 80kms from Junagadh. It is the ancient temple & the first “Jyotirlinga” of Lord Shiva. The Somnath temple located in Prabhas Patan near Veraval in Saurashtra on the western coast of Gujarat, India, is the first among the twelve Jyotirlinga shrines of Shiva. It is an important pilgrimage and tourist spot for pilgrims and tourists.
Madhavpur Beach
One of the loveliest sandy beaches in Gujarat as this stunning beach presents a visual that is hard to compare with anything else.
