About Ph.D. Programme

The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) program at Noble University is designed to foster advanced research and scholarship across a range of disciplines. Governed by the University Grants Commission (UGC) regulations of 2022, the program emphasizes rigorous academic inquiry, ethical research practices, and high standards of quality. The Ph.D. program is offered only in regular mode and is not available through distance or online education. It is aimed at individuals committed to full-time or part-time scholarly engagement under the guidance of experienced faculty members. The university encourages inter-disciplinary and impactful research that contributes to the development of knowledge, society, and industry.

Admission to the Ph.D. program begins with the university publishing an official admission notification, which includes information such as the number of seats, subject-wise availability, eligibility criteria, and entrance examination details. Candidates are required to submit a completed application form along with necessary documents such as academic certificates, research proposal, photographs, NOC (if applicable), and a consent letter from a proposed supervisor. Admission may be granted through national-level exam qualifications (e.g., UGC-NET, JRF, GATE) followed by an interview, or through a university-conducted entrance test and interview process.
  • Ph.D. (Library Science)
  • Ph.D. (Education)
  • Ph.D. (Computer Application)
  • Ph.D. (Gujarati)
  • Ph.D. (Management & Commerce)
  • Ph.D. (Pharmacy)
  • Ph.D. (Engineering)
  • Ph.D. (Science)
Candidates seeking admission to the Ph.D. program must meet specific academic qualifications. The minimum requirement is a Master’s degree (1-year after 4-year undergraduate or 2-year postgraduate program) with at least 55% marks or an equivalent grade. Candidates with a four-year Bachelor’s degree with research and a minimum CGPA of 7.5/10 are also eligible. M.Phil. degree holders with at least 55% marks may apply as well. A 5% relaxation in qualifying marks or CGPA is applicable for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer), EWS, and differently-abled categories. The program accepts full-time scholars, in-service scholars (employees of the university), and part-time scholars, provided that part-time candidates furnish a valid No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their employer.
Noble University ensures continuous monitoring of each Ph.D. scholar through a structured system led by the RAC. Scholars must appear before the RAC every six months to present their research progress. The RAC records and evaluates each presentation and may suggest corrections or improvements. Failure to submit progress reports or attend reviews may result in warnings or cancellation of registration. The RAC also oversees key transitions such as changes in the research topic, supervisor, or research plan, and ensures that the scholar is on track to complete the research within the stipulated time.

It includes a mandatory course in Research Methodology (minimum 4 credits) and subjects related to teaching, pedagogy, writing, or domain-specific topics. Scholars entering with a 4-year research-based UG degree may have to undertake additional credit-based courses. Candidates holding an M.Phil. or already completed equivalent coursework may be exempted. A minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grade is required to successfully complete the coursework and proceed with doctoral research.

To ensure research quality and visibility, Ph.D. scholars at Noble University are required to publish their work before submitting their thesis. They must fulfill one of the following criteria:

  1. Publish one research paper in a UGC-CARE-listed journal and present two papers in conferences or seminars;
  2. Publish two research papers, with at least one in a UGC-CARE Group-II (WOS/SCOPUS) journal; or
  3. Publish one paper in Group-II and one full paper in a Scopus-indexed conference proceeding. These publications must be directly related to the scholar’s research work, and evidence in the form of certificates or reprints must be provided at the time of thesis submission.
The Research Advisory Committee (RAC) plays a central role in guiding and evaluating the research journey of each scholar. It comprises the supervisor (as convener), Dean of the faculty, subject experts, and external experts. The RAC reviews and approves the initial research proposal and methodology, advises on coursework, monitors progress through six-monthly reports, and conducts the final review before thesis submission. Clearance from the Institutional Ethics Committee and/or Animal Ethics Committee (if applicable) is mandatory. The RAC also has the authority to recommend modifications, approve changes in topic or supervisor, and even cancel registration in case of unsatisfactory progress.

The selection process for Ph.D. admission is multi-staged and merit-based. Candidates who qualify national-level tests may be directly called for an interview. Others must appear for the university’s entrance test, which is composed of 50% research methodology and 50% subject-specific content. Those scoring at least 50% marks in the entrance exam (with a 5% relaxation for reserved categories) are eligible for the interview round. Final selection is based on 70% weightage to the written test and 30% to the interview. A merit list is prepared and published separately for direct and entrance-based candidates. Provisionally selected candidates are formally registered after the successful completion of coursework.
Ph.D. scholars must submit their thesis within three months of RAC-approved synopsis submission. The maximum duration for program completion is six years, extendable by two years for valid reasons. An additional one-year extension for thesis submission may be granted with approval. Before thesis submission, scholars must fulfill publication requirements and obtain necessary clearances from the ethics committee. The thesis is reviewed by two external reviewers and the research supervisor, followed by a public viva-voce held on campus. A maximum of three attempts are allowed to pass the viva. Upon successful defense, the Ph.D. degree is awarded, and the thesis is deposited electronically with INFLIBNET for open access.
